Academic Tests
State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) - STAAR assessments are given annually. The exams include reading and math assessments for grades 3-8, a writing assessment for grades 4 and 7, a science assessment for grades 5 and 8, a social studies assessment for grade 8, and end-of-course assessments for students taking algebra I, biology, U.S. history, and English I and II.
Texas GED - The Texas GED program is open to anyone without a high school diploma who is 18 years of age or older. Minors are allowed to test only under special circumstances. Test takers must score at least 410 points on each test and at least 450 points on one test to pass.
Professional Tests
Texas Electrician Exam and Licensure - The electrician's licensing exam for Texas is a computerized test that can be taken at any one of 22 testing centers. Separate tests are given for journeymen, masters, maintenance and residential wireman electricians, but all are in multiple-choice format and can be taken in English or Spanish.

Texas Exam of Education Standards (TExES) - Teachers in Texas must pass the TExES to be allowed to teach in Texas’ public schools. The TExES is specific to the type of certification the teacher seeks. Each test includes two sections: a competency statement and descriptive statements.
Texas HVAC Tests and Licensing - All Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Contractors in Texas have to pass a computerized licensure exam before the license will be issued. PSI, Incorporated administers the four-hour exam, which is multiple choice. There are 120 questions, and a passing score is greater than or equal to 70 percent.
Texas Polygraph Examiners Tests and Licensing - Texas requires all polygraph examiners to pass a three-part exam. The test includes a written section, a 'what-if' scenario section and a practical section. The former is computerized. The test can be taken at any of 17 different locations around the state.
Texas Boiler Safety Licensing Exam - The Boiler Safety Licensing Exam for the state of Texas is a two-hour multiple-choice exam. The written portion is only administered on a computer. The test is a 100 question, closed book exam. All boiler inspector applicants must also pass a practical.
Texas Water Well Drillers Exams and Licensing - Texas requires all those who want to drill water wells or install water pumps to first pass a licensing examination. Several different license classes are available, and all the exams have both a practical section and a multiple choice written section. The exams are available in Spanish and English.
Driver's Tests
Texas Driving Tests - In the state of Texas, all drivers must provide proof of lawful residency and be fingerprinted before they can take the three exams required by the state. A written test, a driving test and a vision exam are all required. Adults between 18 and 24 must also complete a driver's education course.
Texas Commercial Driving Tests - Texas has strict requirements for Commercial Driver's License (CDL) applicants. They must pass a vision test, a written test for the license class and endorsements they desire, the A&B written rules test and a driving test. They must also complete the Hazardous Materials Endorsements Procedures, including the required testing.
Texas Motorcycle Tests - All first-time applicants for a motorcycle license in the state of Texas must pass a written, vision and driving exam. The latter is waived for drivers 18 and older who present a certificate from a Motorcycle Safety Foundation approved Motorcycle Safety Course. The preferred courses are MSB-8 and MSB-8R.
