West Virginia Real Estate Agent Exam
Need of a License: A real estate salesperson must be licensed by the state of West Virginia to represent clients in the sale or purchase of real estate that is located in West Virginia.Who Grants a License: Licenses are granted by the West Virginia Real Estate Commission (“WVREC”).
Qualifications to receive a License:
A candidate must complete 90 clock hours of study at a WVREC-approved real estate school (search schools here), pass a school-administered final exam, and pass a state exam. All candidates must submit a full set of fingerprints, prove legal presence and pass a background check. All candidates must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and receive at least two recommendations from real estate owners in West Virginia. Applying for the Exams: The exam is administered directly through the WVREC. All candidates must apply for the examination according to a deadline schedule that is set by the WVREC. Examinations are held monthly at the Charleston Civic Center.
Test Content: Unfortunately, West Virginia does not publish a content outline for the state real estate licensing exam. However, many websites exist where you can obtain relevant products for examination preparation.
How to Apply for the License: Candidates must provide WVREC with the following documents: (1) completed application and application fee; (2) original West Virginia state real estate licensing exam score report(s); (3) proof of legal presence in the U.S.; (4) certificate issued by WVREC-approved school for completion of the 90-hour salesperson pre-licensure curriculum; and (6) fingerprint cards to be used in conjunction with a background check.
Fees: At the time of this writing, WVREC has not posted any applicable application fees.

License Renewal Requirements – A West Virginia real estate licensee must take 7 credit hours of continuing education each fiscal year. Further information is provided at Section 30-40-16 of the Real Estate License Act.
